WELCOME
TO THE HOME OF SEA RECORDS
JANUARY
2008
new
year, new year...
if you have visited this page in the past year, you might think
nothing has happened in the world of sea records. Au contraire my
friend:
ljoddman
married faye
red
trees recorded their magnificent 6 track ep which will be available
from the shop from february onwards - listen to some of the tracks
here
wolf
people played with damo suzuki, candi payne and recorded their second
7" (cotton strands & storm cloud) which is available with
lovely artwork via battered
ornaments. listen to some of the tracks here
new sea signings, avenging force recorded their debut album which
is set for release at the end of march on cd, vinyl and download.
it's loud. they will be performing all over the place march/april
time - keep checking the live page or their
myspace for dates and a taster
of their album
kristian (woman) had the enviable pleasure of supporting iggy &
the stooges at the royal festival hall with scout niblett. guy (woman)
spent some downtime wisely and formed yet another band, broken
arm who are currently starting to venture into the live forum.
we still get queries about ambulance's track, 'i am not zen' because
of this beautiful video: i
love new tokyo
stink taps has finally (about 5 years in the planning, writing and
recording) completed his 'moon-spinners dreams' which will be available
in the shop from march onwards. this is a
new path he's heading down with his piano and soul. I feel priviledged
to have heard it in advance.
there's
tonnes of stuff we shall add to update this website over the coming
weeks - i just need to get rid of my christmas tree first.
2007
back in the swing of things, sea has an afternoon
booked at the lovely notting hill arts centre, london on february
3rd. ambulance, wolf people and red trees will all be performing
along with dj’s ljoddman (sea) and doug shipton (battered
ornaments). this follows sea being diy label of the week on huw
stevens’s radio one show in december, where they said nice
stuff about us apparently - i missed it because i’d gone to
bed.
ambulance’s bells and whistles ep is finally
finished and ready to hit the shops in early february, it’s
also available from our shop. there’s a great video, i love
new tokyo up on youtube which features ambulance’s track i
am not zen. ambulance are also due to join up with woman on their
january tour in edinburgh and liverpool.
new for 2007 will be woman’s second release
silver wolf dog. due for release on february 26th .
it’s very, very good believe me. they’ll be in the same
country as each other for one week only, so catch them whilst you
can this january. check out their tour dates.
also, those of you who buy artrocker magazine might have noticed
woman’s cat feet from das hexer on the cover cd.
mugstar by mugstar has been attracting the attention
of julian cope who said ‘eight tracks of driving motorik litmus-style
instrumentals distil/streamline all the best late lemmy-period hawkwind
into a tougher and more speedfreaked out version of top flight la
dusseldorf.’
mugstar also feature in dandelion radio’s official festive
50 2006, taking over john peel’s yearly run down. that’s
their second festive 50 in a row!
also available now we’re in the new year is
the tightrope walkers ep by the auditors. six tracks of psychedelic
folk/pop, our forth release in our lifeboat series. this is also
very, very good.
speaking of our lifeboat series, stink taps and pea sea have been
gracing the airwaves on the northern uproar show on bbc newcastle.
we also have an assortment of wonders lined up by red trees, cromagnon
band, man & birdmen, hms beckett, avenging force, the electric
company of liverpool, adam hell and ice king of california.
OCTOBER 2006
hello again
the evenings are getting darker and the leaves are
falling. what better time to wrap up warm, take your dog for a walk
and find out what sea records have been up to.
finally we can announce a triple whammy of releases:
ambulance - the bells & whistles ep
a six track ep of delightful music, hot on the heels of the ‘witchi
tai to’ 12” single. that’s all we have to say
on the matter other than the sleeve is beautiful too. there will
be some live performances leading up to christmas which can be found
on the live page.
mugstar – mugstar
the long awaited long player from the mighty mugstar. the album
is also available on vinyl on critical mass records. in the coming
months mugstar are venturing across the uk and europe. whilst they’ve
been preparing for the release they also managed to record ‘i
got the six’ for a forthcoming zz top tribute compilation
which will also feature part chimp, lords and hunting lodge, plus
some tracks ‘paradox’ and ‘born to go’ for
a hawkwind comp which is set to feature mudhoney, kinski, bardo
pond and acid mothers temple. In the middle of this they also managed
to record a session for dandelion radio
pea sea – pea sea ep
the third release of our lifeboat series is available, a 9 track
compilation of lost and new recordings by pea sea. these songs have
been in some of our hearts for years and it’s a pleasure to
pass them on to the public. pea sea can now be found fronting the
popular beat combo les cox sportifs.
wolf people have released a 7” on the damn fine label battered
ornaments. they will also be performing on stuart macconie’s
freakzone show on bbc 6 on sunday 15th october.
old associates sorted records have included the
original 7” version of the static waves’ song ‘delerec’
on their new 'petals and flowers' compilation of older vinyl singles,
in other news, in the lead up to the festive season,
what seems like every sea associate is coming out of the woodwork
to play, perform or be merry. check out the live page, mugstar setting
off on a mammoth tour, the auditors and red trees setting the foundations
for lifeboat sessions in one of the oldest inn’s in england
and a series of sea records vs battered ornaments nights across
the uk.
you’ll be pleased to know stink taps is planning a more adventurous
trip by leaving these shores for costa rica to turn turtles around
so they face the sea. it’s not technically playing live (stink
taps hasn’t performed live for four years) but we’re
sure a good time will be had and it has a sea theme.
AUGUST 2006
what’s going on? you might ask. everything.
wolf people were stuart macconie’s single
of the week on bbc 6 with their ep, which he described as “captain
beefheart meets steeleye span” and “absolutely terrific”
which it is. the ep is selling fast so if you want one go to the
sea shop now.
woman have just finished their summer tour with
chronicity and are about to record their second album. they also
contributed their track ‘vexed’ from ‘das hexer’
to the caff/flick compilation which features other bands such as
cleckhuddersfax, ftse100 and munchmunch. go to the caff/flick site
to purchase a copy.
you can also catch excerpts from their tour on youtube
coming at you in september we have the 6-track ep
‘bells & whistles’ from ambulance which is already
receiving airplay from rob da bank, steve lamacq and xfm’s
john kennedy. the debut album from mugstar, recently seen playing
the latitude festival and preparing a mammoth tour of the uk in
october. the auditors will be releasing their ep ‘melodies
of kiosk fortunes’ as the next in the lifeboat series.
we have a few more lifeboat series ep’s on the way, pea sea
and red trees will be adding their wares to tape over the next month…
